Cookies.

A cookie is a small text file that we transfer to your computer (including mobile device) to identify that computer and to “remember” things about your visit, such as your preferences, user name, and password. Information in a cookie may be linked to personal information, such as your user ID. We use this information to improve our Services and to tailor recommendations to your interests. You can disable cookies at any time, although you may not be able to access or use certain features of our Services.

Clear Gifs (Web Beacons/Web Bugs).

We employ, or our third-party tracking utility partner employs, a software technology called clear gifs (or “Web Beacons” or “Web Bugs”) that help us better manage content on our website by informing us what content is effective. Clear gifs are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies, and are used to track the online movements of our users. In contrast to cookies, which are stored on a user’s computer hard drive, clear gifs are embedded invisibly on webpages and e-mails and are about the size of the period at the end of this sentence. We may associate this information with your IP address or device identifier, but we do not tie the information gathered by clear gifs to your personal information.

Device Identifiers.

When you use a mobile device like a tablet or phone to access our Service, we may access, collect, monitor, store on your device, and remotely store “device identifiers”. Device identifiers are small data files or similar data structures stored on or associated with your mobile device that uniquely identify your mobile device. A device identifier may be data stored in connection with the device hardware, data stored in connection with the device’s operating system or other software, or data sent to the device by AfterVault.A device identifier may deliver information to us or to a third party partner about how you use the Services and may help us or others provide reports or personalized content and ads. Some features of the Services may not function properly if the device identifiers are impaired or disabled.

Third-Party Services.

Our Services contain third-party tracking and analytic tools from service providers, such as Google Analytics. These third parties may use cookies, APIs, and SDKs to collect and analyze user information on our behalf. The third parties may have access to information such as your device identifier, MAC address, IMEI, locale, geo-location information, and IP address. Our privacy policy does not cover the use of these tracking tools from third parties. We do not have access or control over these third parties.

Ad Networks.

We may feature advertising within our Services. The advertisers may collect and use information about you, such as your session activity, device identifier, MAC address, IMEI, geo-location information, and IP address. They may use this information to provide advertisements of interest to you. These third parties may deliver cookies to your computer so the content you access and advertisements you see can be tracked. Since the third-party advertising companies associate your computer with a number, they will be able to recognize your computer each time they send you an advertisement. These advertisers may use information about your visits to our Services and third-party sites and applications in order to measure advertisement performance and to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. This privacy policy does not apply to, and we are not responsible for, the data collection practices of these third-party advertisers. We encourage you to check their privacy policies to learn more about their use of cookies and other technologies.

We also collect anonymous data about your interactions with our Services, our application, and other mobile application users. This information is associated with your user ID, IP address, and device ID. If you do not wish to allow us to track this information, you may turn it off at the device level. Please note that our Services may not work properly if we are unable to access some of this information.

These service providers will be given access to your information as is reasonably necessary to provide their services under reasonable confidentiality terms. Hm…not sure. I want them to know that their personal information..name, email, etc. will never, ever be shared. [I’d strongly recommend including a paragraph like this. It is very common in privacy policies because it gives the flexibility to outsource features and to rely on third party services, like payment gateways (for credit cards) and Google Analytics. However, we can use narrower language. For example, here is a stricter version:] Service Providers. From time to time, we use third-party service providers to help us provide the Services. We may share your information with these service providers but only so that they can perform their services. Any information shared this way will be subject to confidentiality obligations consistent with our privacy policy and it will be shared on the condition that the third parties use the information only on our behalf and pursuant to our instructions.
  • Law and Harm. We may preserve or disclose your information if we believe that it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, or legal request; to protect the safety of any person; to address or investigate fraud, security, or technical issues; or to protect AfterVault’s rights or property.
  • Business Transfers. In the event that AfterVault is involved in a bankruptcy, merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your information may be sold or transferred as part of related transactions. The promises in this privacy policy will apply to your information as transferred to the new entity.
  • Non-Private or Non-Personal Information. We may share your non-private, aggregated, or non-personal information (such as your public user profile, public content, or the number of users who clicked on a particular link) with advertisers, publishers, business partners, sponsors, and other third parties.

Further, while we attempt to ensure the integrity and security of our network and systems, we cannot guarantee that our security measures will prevent third-party “hackers” from illegally obtaining access to this information. We do not warrant that your information will be protected against loss, misuse, or alteration by third parties. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, however. Therefore, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. We strive to make our servers and connections incorporate the latest encryption and security devices. To prevent unauthorized access, we have implemented physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect. We use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), an advanced security protocol that protects your credit card information and ensures secure online ordering. SSL Internet connections are encrypted, and thus protect all credit card ordering information, including your name, address, and credit card number, so it cannot be read in transit. Please note, however, that although we employ industry-standard security measures to safeguard the security of your personal information, no transmissions made on or through the Internet and no method of electronic storage are guaranteed to be secure.

We currently do not respond to DNT signals. We also work with third parties that use tracking technologies on our Services in order to provide tailored advertisements on our behalf and on behalf of other advertisers across the Internet.
